Dayton Area Taekwondo Ranking Requirements

"Poomse" (Forms) provide the Textbook of the martial art and are the primary vehicle through which the martial art is learned practiced and passed on from generation to generation. The student comes to understand that all the essential elements of martial arts training are imbedded in the poomse: balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, power, softness, speed, agility, self control, positive attitude, determination, as well as a complete philosophy regarding how and why to practice the martial art.

Following are the requirements for various Gup/Dan/Poom rankings as required by Dayton Area Taekwondo. Note that in addition to forms as listed below, the student testing for promotion is also required to show his/her proficiency in self-defense techniques (progressively advanced for higher belts), breaking techniques as well as "light-contact" free-sparring. Promotion to the next higher Gup/Dan weighs in all the components mentioned above.

The prescribed time duration/hours/age are "the minimum" for each level. Depending upon your level of committment, these guidelines may be adequate for you or you may require additional time to train to be proficient at your current rank.

Stipulated Gup (Color Belt) Requirements

Note that there is a testing fee associated with each belt test to cover various costs associated with testing. The belt promotion test fees are discounted for family units practicing together, click here for testing fees for various belt tests.
